1. A man bought a ticket with all his savings, to go on a cruise but IGNORANT that his ticket covered his meals, stayed in his room. Four days later, he was found on the floor, groaning in hunger and REVIVED by the TRUTH. IGNORANCE is the reason men are stuck in the PRISON of fear, anxiety, sickness, adultery, drug addiction, drunkenness, strife, etc. We struggle with new year resolutions and cannot stop doing what we know to be wrong because SIN dwells in us, as it is written: “For the GOOD I WOULD I DO NOT: but the EVIL WHICH I WOULD NOT, THAT I DO. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but SIN DWELLETH IN ME” [Romans 7:19-20] The strength of SIN is IGNORANCE; not knowing or denying the LIBERTY that is in Jesus Christ “Now the Lord is that Spirit: and WHERE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS, THERE IS LIBERTY” [2 Corinthians 3:17] The answer to IGNORANCE and SIN is TRUTH, “And YE SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH, and the TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE” [John 8:32]
2. Satan LIED, when the Serpent said to Eve, “… YE SHALL NOT SURELY DIE” [Genesis 3:4] The LIE established SIN in our FLESH and we became BONDSLAVES to DEATH, “Wherefore, as BY ONE MAN SIN ENTERED INTO THE WORLD, and DEATH BY SIN; and so DEATH PASSED UPON ALL MEN, for that ALL HAVE SINNED” [Romans 5:12] We are SINNERS because SIN rules our FLESH, not necessarily for what we do or omit to do, for “… of WHOM A MAN IS OVERCOME, of the same is he BROUGHT IN BONDAGE” [2 Peter 2:19] SIN is the life of Satan, constraining us to do his WILL and no man is FREE until he has broken the shackles of SIN. Friend, as long as SIN reigns in your FLESH, you are a PRISONER of DEATH; you can neither do what is right nor please God, as it is written: “But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and BRINGING ME INTO CAPTIVITY TO THE LAW OF SIN which is in my members. O WRETCHED MAN that I am! WHO SHALL DELIVER ME FROM THE BODY OF THIS DEATH?” [Romans 7:23-24] No man is FREE to do what is right, get out of sinful habits or please God through WILLPOWER or some form of therapy. The ANOINTING that breaks the YOKE of SIN is Jesus Christ, who DIED on the Cross, “… that THROUGH DEATH HE MIGHT DESTROY HIM THAT HAD the POWER OF DEATH, that is, the DEVIL; And DELIVER them who through FEAR OF DEATH were all their lifetime subject to bondage” [Hebrews 2:14-15]
3. TRUTH is the PROMISE of SALVATION, “In HOPE of ETERNAL LIFE, which God, that cannot lie, PROMISED BEFORE THE WORLD BEGAN” [Titus 1:2] God knew SIN would enter the world and offered Himself for us in the “… LAMB SLAIN FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD” [Revelation 13:8] TRUTH preceded the LIE; God had a BODY prepared for Himself to REDEEM us from SIN and DEATH, that is, Jesus Christ “Who verily was FOREORDAINED BEFORE the FOUNDATION of the WORLD, but was MANIFEST in THESE LAST DAYS” [1 Peter 1:20] The GOSPEL of Jesus Christ is the TRUTH: God was MANIFEST in Jesus Christ and His BLOOD was shed at Calvary for remission of SIN, “And without controversy great is the MYSTERY OF GODLINESS: GOD WAS MANIFEST IN THE FLESH, … ” [1Ti 3:16] TRUTH is not a DOCTRINE or set of religious RITES, but FAITH in the finished WORK of Jesus Christ on the Cross, “… if thou shalt CONFESS with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt BELIEVE in thine heart that God hath RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD, THOU SHALT BE SAVED” [Romans 10:9] In Jesus Christ, we are created anew in His image, no longer SLAVES to SIN,aa “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a NEW CREATURE: old things are passed away; behold, ALL THINGS ARE BECOME NEW” [2 Corinthians 5:17] The POWER of SIN is broken and now God dwells in us, as SINonce did, to do His WILL, “For it is GOD which WORKETH IN YOU both TO WILL and to DO of HIS GOOD PLEASURE” [Philippians 2:13]
4. In Jesus Christ, we have a NEW LIFE, totally FREE to do and become what God wants us to be, “For whom he did FOREKNOW, he also did PREDESTINATE to be CONFORMED to the IMAGE OF HIS SON, that he might be the FIRSTBORN AMONG MANY BRETHREN” [Romans 8:29] The NEW LIFE we have in Christ is the LIBERTY of SONS of God; to be like Jesus Christ “According as his DIVINE POWER HATH GIVEN UNTO US ALL THINGS that pertain unto LIFE and GODLINESS, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to GLORY and VIRTUE” [2 Peter 1:3] We are BORN AGAIN, totally FREE of SIN and FEAR of DEATH to serve God, not an occasion to run after the vanities of this world as some do, “Having the UNDERSTANDING DARKENED, being ALIENATED FROM THE LIFE OF GOD through the IGNORANCE that is in them, because of the BLINDNESS OF THE HEART” [Ephesians 4:18] if any man professes to know the Lord and remains entangled in his old ways, he deceives himself and has not the foundation of TRUTH “Having a FORM OF GODLINESS, but DENYING THE POWER thereof: FROM SUCH TURN AWAY” [2 Timothy 3:5] Jesus Christ paid the price for our LIBERTY, let us STAND FAST in the LIBERTY of the SON of God, WATCHING and PREPARING for His appearance “STAND FAST therefore in the LIBERTY WHEREWITH CHRIST HATH MADE US FREE, and BE NOT ENTANGLED again with the YOKE OF BONDAGE” [Galatians 5:1]
5. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, amen
