1. I acknowledge the frustration of some who think we over flog the Coming of the Lord: the WATCHMAN has no such luxury. He LOOKS through the EYES of God, HEAR from Him and WARN the people of impending danger, as it is written: “Son of man, I HAVE MADE THEE A WATCHMAN unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and GIVE THEM WARNING FROM ME” [Ezekiel 3:7] Virtually all nations experienced LOCKED DOWN in one form of COVID-19 restriction or another, the economy is depressed, climate change is unrelenting and the hearts of men oppressed with fear of what lies ahead. At such a time as this, the WATCHMAN must CRY, as Noah did, “By faith Noah, being WARNED OF GOD OF THINGS NOT YET SEEN as yet, moved with fear, prepared AN ARK TO THE SAVING OF HIS HOUSE; by the which he condemned the world, and became HEIR OF THE RIGHTEOUSNESS WHICH IS BY FAITH” [Hebrews 11:7] WATCHMAN’S CRY is the FINAL CALL to HEIRS OF RIGHTEOUENESS to PREPARE for the imminent appearance of Jesus Christ, when “… we which are ALIVE and REMAIN shall be CAUGHT UP together with them in the clouds, TO MEET THE LORD IN THE AIR: and so shall we ever be with the Lord” [1 Thessalonians 4:17]
2. Noah was the WATCHMAN to his age; for 100 years WARNING men to REPENT and escape looming destruction. Though there was no prior experience or scientific proof of RAIN, Noah stuck to his message and God “… spared not the old world, but saved NOAH the eighth person, A PREACHER OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly” [2 Peter 2:5] The WATCHMAN is not an ENTERTAINER or MAGICIAN, who entices people with new tricks, but a MESSENGER, like John, with strict instruction to PREPARE the WAY of the Lord, “The VOICE OF ONE CRYING in the wilderness, PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORD, make his paths straight” [Mark 1:3] The VOICE of the WATCHMAN is ONE, not many VOICES; even as John rebuked the people and called his generation to REPENTANCE “But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O GENERATION OF VIPERS, who hath WARNED YOU TO FLEE FROM THE WRATH TO COME?” [Matthew 3:7] Listen carefully, the seeming monotony of THE WATCHMAN’S CRY is not for want of what to say, but the LONGSUFFERING of God, “The LORD IS NOT SLACK CONCERNING HIS PROMISE, as some men count slackness; but is LONGSUFFERING TO US-WARD, NOT WILLING THAT ANY SHOULD PERISH, but that all should come to repentance” [2 Peter 3:9]
3. The BURDEN of the WATCHMAN is LONELINESS; day and night, he must be at his duty post and cannot be quiet “But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but HIS BLOOD WILL I REQUIRE AT THE WATCHMAN’S HAND” [Ezekiel 33:6] The WATCHMAN is hated in his days because he may only PROPHESY and WARN as he is instructed, even as Micaiah was LONELY and HATED, “And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the LORD: but I HATE HIM; FOR HE DOTH NOT PROPHESY GOOD CONCERNING ME, BUT EVIL …” [1 Kings 20:8] What Ahab called EVIL was Micaiah’s persistent WARNING to him to REPENT and escape imminent judgment. This adulterous generation is worse; the WATCHMAN is mocked as a prophet of doom and his message, socially and politically unacceptable. He is ostracized and grossly misunderstood, as it is written: “I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, NOR REJOICED; I SAT ALONE because of thy hand: for THOU HAST FILLED ME WITH INDIGNATION” [Jeremiah 15:17] They are accounted as men of sorrows and would to be free, but cannot stop VOICE, “Then I said, I will not make mention of him, NOR SPEAK ANY MORE IN HIS NAME But HIS WORD WAS IN MINE HEART AS A BURNING FIRE shut up in my bones,… ” [Jeremiah 20:9]
4. WATCHMAN’S CRY is the ASSURANCE of HOPE in the imminent appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ, when we who are sealed by His Spirit shall receive the fulness of our inheritance in Him, “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the GOSPEL OF YOUR SALVATION: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were SEALED WITH THAT HOLY SPIRIT OF PROMISE, Which is the EARNEST OF OUR INHERITANCE until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory” [Ephesians 1:13-14] At a time like this, when the world is world is rushing headlong to destruction, it is strange to see those who claim to have the “EARNEST” refuse the invitation to receive the full INHERITANCE, and PROPHECY is fulfilled, “… Go out into the HIGHWAYS and HEDGES, and COMPEL THEM TO COME IN, that my house may be filled” [Luke 14:23] The MESSAGE derided in shiny Cathedrals is preached and received with delight by drug addicts, harlots, and drunkards, etc., “…Verily I say unto you, That the PUBLICANS and the HARLOTS GO INTO THE KINGDOM of God before you” [Matthew 21:31] The WATCHMAN has blown the trumpet, REPENT and PREPARE to meet the Lord. If any man “… HEARD THE SOUND OF THE TRUMPET, and took not warning; HIS BLOOD SHALL BE UPON HIM. But HE THAT TAKETH WARNING SHALL DELIVER HIS SOUL” [Ezekiel 33:5]
