VERSE 4: TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST is the foundation of our FAITH, “That at the NAME OF JESUS EVERY KNEE SHOULD BOW, of things in HEAVEN, and things in EARTH, and things UNDER THE EARTH” [Philippians 2:10] Another word for TESTIMONY is WITNESS, and pertaining to WITNESSES, “A TRUE WITNESS DELIVERETH SOULS: but a DECEITFUL WITNESS SPEAKETH LIES” [‘Proverbs14:25] John TESTIFIED to the SEVEN churches in Asia, the figure SEVEN signifying the TRUE CHURCH; built on the perfect revelation of God in Christ “… WHICH IS, and WHICH WAS, and WHICH IS TO COME; and from the SEVEN SPIRITS which are BEFORE HIS THRONE” [Revelation 1:4] Jesus Christ IS on the THRONE, the same was on the CROSS and shall COME in due season to receive His BRIDE. The “SEVEN SPIRITS BEFORE HIS THRONE” denote the fulness of God manifest in the Holy Ghost which Jesus promised, saying: “… If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my FATHER will love him, and WE WILL COME unto him, and MAKE OUR ABODE IN HIM” [John 14:23] The MESSAGE of this BOOK is addressed to faithful men and women in all ages, who did not SEE God in the flesh but BELIEVED the TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST; truly “… BLESSED ARE THEY THAT HAVE NOT SEEN, and yet HAVE BELIEVED” [John 20:29]
VERSES 5-6: This BOOK is the capstone MESSAGE of which Jesus said: “I have yet MANY THINGS TO SAY UNTO YOU, but YE CANNOT BEAR THEM NOW. Howbeit when he, the SPIRIT OF TRUTH, is come, he will guide you into all truth: … HE WILL SHEW YOU THINGS TO COME” [John 16:12-13] SPIRIT OF TRUTH is the fulness of God revealed in the Holy Ghost, as Jesus promised; “… If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my FATHER will love him, and WE WILL COME UNTO HIM, and make our ABODE WITH HIM” [John 14:23] Holy Ghost is the FAITHFUL WITNESS of how “… God was MANIFEST in the FLESH, JUSTIFIED in the SPIRIT … “ [1 Timothy 3:16] He removes all doubts and establishes in us the true IDENTITY of Christ, the greatness of His power and magnitude of His LOVE for us, “And because ye are SONS, God hath sent forth the SPIRIT OF HIS SON INTO YOUR HEARTS, crying, Abba, Father” [Galatians 4:6] If the SPIRIT OF HIS SON is in you, you are BORN AGAIN into everlasting inheritance as, “… HEIRS OF GOD, and JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together” [Romans 8:17] Having these wonderful promises, let us do all we can to please Him who gave His LIFE to make us KINGS and PRIESTS to our God and “IF WE SUFFER, WE SHALL ALSO REIGN WITH HIM: if we deny him, he also will deny us” [2 Timothy 2:12]
VERSE 7: The ANCHOR of our FAITH is the PROMISE of His Coming, which has lingered for some 2,000 years, and some who once BELIEVED are now SCOFFERS, “… walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the PROMISE OF HIS COMING? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation” [2 Peter 3:4] God cannot lie and His PROMISE is infallible. He will APPEAR, first to receive His own; we shall be CAUGHT UP in the TWINKLING of an eye and though “… it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, WHEN HE SHALL APPEAR, WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM, for we shall see him as he is” [1 John 3:2] Those who are left behind shall suffer GREAT TRIBULATION under the jackboots of the ANTICHRIST. There shall be unprecedented DISTRESS, paving the way to ARMAGEDDON and near extinction of life, but the Lord shall RETURN in time, “… and EVERY EYE SHALL SEE HIM, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him… ” [Revelation 1:7] He will BIND the devil in chains, put an end to SUFFERING and we shall reign with Him for a thousand years, as it is written: “And he laid hold on the dragon, that old on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and BOUND HIM A THOUSAND YEARS” [Revelation 20:2]
VERSES 8-9: TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST is the foundation of our FAITH and KEY that unravels the MYSTERIES and PROPHECIES in the BOOK OF REVELATION, “… for the TESTIMONY OF JESUS IS THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY” [Revelation 19:10] Remember, the AUTHOR is Jesus Christ, and whosoever doubts His IDENTITY loses the KEY to the PROPHECIES in this BOOK. Thus says the Lord: “I am ALPHA and OMEGA, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, WHICH IS, and WHICH WAS, and WHICH IS TO COME, the ALMIGHTY” [Revelation 1:8] If you accept who He says He IS, you are His SHEEP and the MESSAGE in this BOOK is addressed to you. If you BELIEVE not, you can neither HEAR nor UNDERSTAND the His MESSAGE “… YE ARE NOT MY SHEEP, as I said unto you. MY SHEEP HEAR MY VOICE, and I know them, and they follow me” [John 10:26-27] His SHEEP are ONE FOLD, under ONE SHEPHERD; we are all BRETHREN, therefore, “… CALL NO MAN FATHER upon the earth: for ONE IS YOUR FATHER, which is IN HEAVEN” [Matthew 23:9] Consider John who received the REVELATION, and called us BROTHER, saying: “I JOHN, who also am YOUR BROTHER, and COMPANION in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST” [Revelation 1:9] Let us likewise put aside selfish interests and in unity of FAITH contend for the TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST.
