1. When God, in Genesis 1:26, said, "... Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: ...", the ALMIGHTY set in motion a seismic shift in the order of creation. The words used, image and likeness, were intentionally not tautology; whereas an image could be a caricature, likeness implies a living replica, "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the BREATH OF LIFE; and man became A LIVING SOUL" [Genesis 2:7] The "breath of life" is not oxygen going in and carbon dioxide going out. Through His in man God invested a portion of His Spirit in us, a grant of everlasting communion, the heritage of Children made in His own image and likeness, "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the CHILDREN of God: And if children, then heirs; HEIRS OF GOD, and JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together" [Romans 8:16-17] Notwithstanding, we were made of clay, a mystery to Angels and sundry celestial personalities, that the "WORK" might be known only to God, "Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world" [Acts 15:18]
2. When God, in Genesis 1:26, said, "... Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: ...", the King of kings was not seeking counsel from a council of gods, it was a royal proclamation, "Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, MY COUNSEL SHALL STAND, and I WILL DO ALL MY PLEASURE" [Isaiah 46:10] Indeed, God need not speak to have His WILL done, He spoke for hearing of Angels who shall serve His heirs, Hebrews 1:14 and for our hearing who through faith should inherit His REST, "For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into MY REST: although the WORKS were FINISHED from the FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD" [:Hebrews 4:3-4] As soon as God "willed" it, it was done and dusted. Sin could not stop the work "finished from the foundation of the world", but a setback for man, "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof THOU SHALT SURELY DIE" [Genesis 2:17] The LIVING SOUL DIED, the "breath of life" was contaminated, replaced with nature of Satan and perdition prepared for Satan and his hosts, "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into EVERLASTING FIRE, PREPARED FOR THE DEVIL AND HIS ANGELS" [Matthew 25:41
3. When God, in Genesis 1:26, said, "... Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: ...", the All-Seeing God had a clear prototype of His "finished work", "For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be CONFORMED to the IMAGE OF HIS SON, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren" [Romans 8:29] JESUS CHRIST is the SON, God revealed in flesh and blood to overturn the setback of sin and death. Sin was a debt we could not pay, Romans 3:23 and death, a sentence no Angel or heavenly hosts could overthrow, "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil" [Hebrews 2:14] JESUS broke the yoke of sin and death on the Cross, He paid with His life for SIN and with His blood purged us of the oppressive rule of Satan. When it was done, "... he said, IT IS FINISHED: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost" [John 19:30] On the third day, JESUS rose and did what only God could do, He restored to us the "breath of life"; "And when he had said this, HE BREATHED ON THEM, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost" [John 20:22] If you will believe it, the finished work is the revelation of the FATHER in the SON, "For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily" [Colossians 2:9]
4. When God, in Genesis 1:26, said, "... Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: ...", the All-knowing God arranged His purpose in time, having an end, "For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off" [Proverbs 23:18] To this glorious end is our hope anchored who believe in the "finished work" and our faith daily renewed, having understanding of prophetic times and seasons of God's purpose, "And when THESE THINGS begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh" [Luke 21:28] The "things" spoken of are coming to pass, we have little time left and long for the "short work", "For he will FINISH THE WORK, and cut it short in righteousness: because A SHORT WORK will the Lord make upon the earth" [Romans 9:28] If any man will receive it, revelation of God in JESUS CHRIST is the "finished work", manifestation of Sons of God is the "short work", "For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God" [Romans 8:19] The "short work" in Egypt was built around Moses, Hosea 12:13, this "exodus" is not be built around a man or religious organization; we shall be made perfect by the latter rain according to His specifications [James 5:7-8] What a "short work" it shall be; we shall gathered from all nations, led by His Spirit beyond the clouds into His presence [Romans 8:14]
