1. A PATTERN is a predictable sequence of events, shapes or actions. Having said that, no where is PATTERN more evident as in Creation, every creature brings forth in kind, "And God said, Let the EARTH BRING FORTH THE LIVING CREATURE AFTER HIS KIND, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth AFTER HIS KIND: and it was so" [Genesis 1:24] God, who likewise made man after His own PATTERN, Genesis 1:26-27, consigned the present world to a predictable arrangement of events, "Declaring the END FROM THE BEGINNING, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, MY COUNSEL SHALL STAND, and I will do all my pleasure" [Isaiah 46:10] Those who WALK with God and will fulfil His PLEASURE do so in "UNDERSTANDING", having diligent regard to His PATTERNS, "And the LORD spake unto MOSES, saying, ... According to all that I shew thee, after the PATTERN OF THE TABERNACLE, and the PATTERN OF ALL THE INSTRUMENTS thereof, even so shall ye make it" [Exodus 25:1,9] It must be said, God's PATTERNS are not subject to human faculties, they are known to Him and revealed to His Stewards, as He did to MOSES.
2. The end of all PATTERNS is the RECONCILIATION of "ALL THINGS" to God in JESUS CHRIST, "For it pleased the Father that IN HIM SHOULD ALL FULNESS DWELL; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to RECONCILE ALL THINGS unto himself;... whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven" [Colossians 1:19-20] His PATTERNS are administered by SEASONS which God had apportioned, up to HARVEST of the earth, "For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the BLADE, then the EAR, after that the FULL CORN IN THE EAR. But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come" [Mark 4:28-29] This PARABLE lines up the PATTERN, Exodus 25:1,9, with SEASONS right up to HARVEST; the TABERNACLE was the "BLADE", Jerusalem TEMPLE was the "CORN", we are "CORN IN THE EAR, "Know ye not that YE ARE THE TEMPLE OF GOD, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are" [1Corinthians 3:16-17] We are so close to the END, Isaiah 46:10 but we are indifferent to the SEASON and as children, "... sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and YE HAVE NOT DANCED; we have mourned to you, and YE HAVE NOT WEPT" [Luke 7:32]
3. Israel in the wilderness was a PATTERN, She was delivered from bondage in Egypt and "DRANK" of CHRIST on the way to the PROMISED LAND, "And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and THAT ROCK WAS CHRIST. But with many of them GOD WAS NOT PLEASED: for they were overthrown in the wilderness" [1 Corinthians 10:4-5] We, likewise, are partakers of "RIVERS OF LIVING WATERS" which flows from pierced side of CHRIST, if so be we have received Him as GOD and SAVIOUR. However, with many of them, "GOD WAS NOT PLEASED, "Now all THESE THINGS HAPPENED UNTO THEM FOR ENSAMPLES: and they are WRITTEN FOR OUR ADMONITION, UPON WHOM THE ENDS OF THE WORLD ARE COME. Wherefore LET HIM THAT THINKETH HE STANDETH TAKE HEED lest he fall" [1 Corinthians 10:11-12] At Gilgal, Israel had one leg in the PROMISED LAND, the other in Egypt; God demanded the people be CIRCUMCISED, He would not allow the "REPROACH" of Egypt into the PROMISED LAND, "And Joshua made him sharp knives, and CIRCUMCISED THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL at the hill of the foreskins. ... And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I ROLLED AWAY THE REPROACH OF EGYPT from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day" [Joshua 5:3, 9]
4. Brethren, the SEASON of our crossing into "heavenly MANSIONS" is here, John 14:1-3 and like Israel, the best of us have one leg ready to go, the other entangled in sundry vanities. We are as it were at Gilgal to be CIRCUMCISED, this time not with knives but by the HOLY GHOST, as foretold, "But who may abide the DAY OF HIS COMING? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a REFINER'S FIRE, and like FULLERS' SOAP" [Malachi 3:2] The PATTERN is unassailable, we are closer to His COMING than ever, the indices of the SEASON are irrefutable; 'REFINER'S FIRE and "FULLERS' SOAP. This conjunction of PATTERN and SEASON point at one thing, the LATTER RAIN of the HOLY GHOST, sgnalling the GREAT REVIVAL. We shall be PURGED within, WASHED without and the GOSPEL preached in all nations in readiness for TRANSLATION. The ALMIGHTY, who commanded JOSHUA to bring out the knives at Gilgal also gave instructions to us what to do; PRAY, "ASK YE OF THE LORD RAIN IN THE TIME OF THE LATTER RAIN; so the LORD shall make BRIGHT CLOUDS, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field" [Zechariah 10:1] Beloved, it is time to PRAY in earnest for the LATTER RAIN for the greatest REVIVAL of all time.
