THE NICODEMUS QUESTION

1. THE NICODEMUS QUESTION underscores the MYSTERY of TRUTH, “Even the MYSTERY which hath been HID from ages and from generations, but now is made MANIFEST to his saints” [Colossians 1:26] Nicodemus was well schooled in religion, a Pharisee and member of Sanhedrin, had no peace in what he knew and more importantly, what he did not know, “The same CAME TO JESUS by NIGHT, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a TEACHER COME FROM GOD: for no man can do these MIRACLES that thou doest, except God BE WITH HIM” [John 3:1-2] When Nicodemus made his opening statement, he stated the popular view of Christ, leaving out the QUESTION that troubled him. Jesus, knowing all things, went straight to the heart of the matter and answered the unspoken QUESTION, “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be BORN AGAIN, he cannot SEE the kingdom of God” [John 3:3] Jesus’s ANSWER exposed the underbelly of popular religion; here was a man accounted righteous by religious standards, a teacher and ruler over men yet ignorant of the basic requirement of SALVATION, “Nicodemus saith unto him, HOW CAN A MAN BE BORN WHEN HE IS OLD? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?” [John 3:4]

2. THE NICODEMUS QUESTION reflect longing of a famished SOUL for refreshing. Nicodemus desired the TRUTH, he convinced Jesus was more than a TEACHER from God, having heard Him speak with AUTHORITY as God and not as man, “And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with AUHTORITY commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him” [Mark 1:27] THE NICODEMUS QUESTION was a burning desire to unravel the IDENTITY of Jesus Christ and the same is evident in many SOULS today, who like Nicodemus wish above all things to be initiated into the MYSTERY of GODLINESS, “And without controversy great is the MYSTERY OF GODLINESS: GOD WAS MANIFEST IN THE FLESH, … ” [1 Timothy 3:16] Jesus Christ is God BORN in man, not an Angel or religious leader; He is God in man reconciling us to Himself, “To wit, that GOD WAS IN CHRIST, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation” [2 Corinthians 5:19] THE NICODEMUS QUESTION reflect weakness of human mind to figure out the WISDOM of God, that our SALVATION might be by REVELATION and not of wisdom of men, “… nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: But we speak the WISDOM OF GOD in a MYSTERY, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory” [1 Corinthians 2:6-7]

3. THE NICODEMUS QUESTION is crying for answer by reason of prevalence of false teachers “For they that are such SERVE NOT our Lord JESUS CHRIST, but THEIR OWN BELLY; and by good words and fair speeches DECEIVE the hearts of the simple” [Romans 16:18] If any man will come to God, it must be according to His WILL, BORN AGAIN, not of religious indoctrination but of FAITH God revealed in Jesus Christ, “But as many as RECEIVED HIM, to them gave he POWER to become the SONS OF GOD, even to them that BELIEVE on his NAME Which were BORN, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but OF GOD” [John 1:12-13] The journey of our nativity in God begin in receiving His undiluted WORD in good FAITH after which His POWER takes over to bring our INNER MAN to LIFE, “Being BORN AGAIN, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the WORD OF GOD, which liveth and abideth for ever” [1 Peter 1:23] THE NICODEMUS QUESTION is answered by FAITH; REVELATION of TRUTH follows, not the other way; no man may know or access God outside of FAITH, “But WITHOUT FAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE HIM: for he that cometh to God must BELIEVE THAT HE IS, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him" [Hebrews 11:6] When we BELIEVE, not doubting, God reveals Himself to us and in us radiating through SPIRIT, SOUL and BODY till the Christ be formed in us, “Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened,” [Matthew 13:33]

4. THE NICODEMUS QUESTION is the riddle of LIFE and DEATH, illustrated by FLESH and SPIRIT, “For the FLESH LUSTETH AGAINST THE SPIRIT, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would” Galatians 5:17] Man is FLESH God is Spirit, we cannot relate with Him on our own terms or accepted into His Kingdom, if we are not as He is [John 4:23-24] Our best efforts at doing what we think to be good fall far short of His requirements, hence Jesus said to Nicodemus, “… Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be BORN of WATER and of the SPIRIT, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” [John 3:5] LIFE of God is conceived in us by FAITH in His WORD, same you are reading and are BORN of Him in conformity with Christ, by BAPTISM of Holy Spirit, “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be CONFORMED to the IMAGE OF HIS SON, that he might be the FIRSTBORN AMONG MANY BRETHREN” [Romans 8:29] Have you answered THE NICODEMUS QUESTION? In doing so, “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.  For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily” [Colossians 2:8-9]
