1. SPIRITUAL MAPPING
■ Christianity arrived coastal regions of Togo mid-19th century in three waves, British, German and French missionaries; Methodist, Protestant and Roman Catholic in that order.
■ By independence in April 1960, the Catholic Church with support of France, the colonial power, was the dominant Christian denomination.
■ Gnassingbe Eyadema became military ruler of TOGO via a coup d'etat in January 1967. He weaponised Traditional Religion as state policy against perceived foreign influence which included Christianity to consolidate power in himself.
■ From 1967 till his death in 2005 the Church in TOGO suffered a bruising spell of SYNCRETISM; a popular form of Christianity blended with traditional beliefs.
■ In the last two decades, 2005 to 2026, TOGO experienced a growing home-grown move to evangelize and reform the Church, assisted by Togolese Christians returning from exile in neighbouring countries.
■ As at 2025, 50% of the population identity as Christans, Traditional Religion 35% and Islam 15%
2. PRAYER POINTS
■ Praise the Lord with thanksgiving for the Church in TOGO and recent moves to evangelize and reform [Philippians 4:6]
■ Ask the Lord JESUS CHRIST to strengthen His shepherds and flocks in TONIC in the inner man to comprehend the truth and do His will [Ephesians 3:16-21]
■ Contend against the gods of the land, break the yoke of SYNCRETISM and deliver those who have gone astray from demonic manipulation [Exodus 12:12 / 2 Corinthians 10:5]
■ TOGO is ripe for harvest but labourers few and resources scanty; the Church in TOGO needs both material and spiritual assistance. Ask the LORD to send faithful missionaries and provide resources for His harvest [Matthew 9:37-38]
■ Prophesy over the youths, that the dry bones be turned into God's end-time army to possess TOGO for the Kingdom of God [Ezekiel 37:4-10]
